National Orientation Agency, Delta state, has called on residents leaving in flood prone zone not to wait until they are overwhelmed by flood before they start moving to safer places.

This call is coming after NiMet has issued a warning to states that will be affected by flood.

NOA Director, Mrs Tracy Ikolomi who spoke to just journalists at the Federal secretariat in Asaba also revealed that there was a directive for all stakeholders to ensure that residents are put on flood alert, saying that the agency is working tirelessly with partners to inform the public that the flooding is imminent, and ” we can do better by ensuring that we are safe.”

According to Ikolomi, “one of the flood alerts we are campaigning is to let residents know that there are some areas that are prone to flooding, they should start moving ahead of time, they should not wait until the flood has overtaken them”.

” Since there is already warning from NiMet, residents around flood prone zone should be proactive and ensure that they move to higher and safer ground and further ensure that their property too are safe”.

The Delta State Director of the National Orientation Agency, however, called on the state government to look for a permanent measure to discourage people from building, investing in a flood prone zone, before another season of flooding to avoid continuous moving of people every flooding season.
