The President General of Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, Brig Gen Mike Ndubisi (Rtd) inaugurated the new Board of Trustee, BOT of the Union. The event held Saturday at the country home of Prof Steve Agwo Okecha at Obiaruku.
The Board of Trustee members so inaugurated were Prof Steve Agwo Okecha, Chairman, Barr Anthony Odigwe, Secretary, Dr Chief Tabs Ogaranya Tabowei, member, Prince Igwe Nzekwe, member, Engr GOC Amuchi, member, Prof Austin Anigala, member and Dcns Mrs Beatrice Otono.
Other members of the BOT are Chief Barr Neku Opute, Chief Nze Ananyi, Mrs Florence O. Johnson, Prof Julie Umukoro and Brig Gen Mike Ndubisi (Rtd) as ad-hoc member.
Those present at the Inauguration were Prof Steve Agwo Okecha, Brig Gen Mike Ndubisi, Barr Anthony Odigwe, Prof Austin Anigala, Dcns Mrs Beatrice Otono and Mrs Florence O. Johnson.
The General Secretary, NNU Prof Chukwuemeke Ojione Ojieh, Chief Fidelix Ogude, 1st Vice President General, NNU, Engr Eugene Agadaga, PRO NNU, Chief Unue Benjamin PG Abbi, Chief Ebunu, PG, Obiaruku, Chief Nelson Nmor, Chief Mrs Faith Omolu and other well meaning Ndokwa sons and daughters graced the ceremony. Other members of the BOT took permission as they were not able to attend the ceremony.
Earlier in his address, the President General, NNU Brig Gen Mike Ndubisi (Rtd) reiterated the fact that the tenure of the last BOT members headed by HRM Johnson Ekpechi Ulu, the Ezemu of Emu kingdom ended in May last year which necessitated the appointment of new BOT members. He appreciated the HRM Johnson Ekpechi Ulu led BOT members having served meritoriously for 8 years.
He reminded those that attended the inauguration ceremony that the tenure of the current Executive Committee of NNU would end in February next year and that in few weeks to come he would inaugurate the Electoral Committee.
The NNU President General also appreciated Prof Steve Okecha and members of his team for accepting to serve inspite of criticisms.
He said the BOT has enormous task of correcting the wrongs of the Executive Committee of NNU even as they have oversight functions.
He used the occasion to clarify the position of NNU regarding the proposed Anioma State creation. According to him, NNU is not against the creation of Anioma State but not to be across the Niger.
“We are not against the creation of Anioma State. We are only against taking us across the Niger. Anioma State can be created so long we are still in the South South geo-political zone. Ndokwa has never been in the other side of the Niger.”
Responding, Prof Steve Agwo Okecha on behalf of other BOT members accepted to serve even as he expressed limitless gratitude to the General Mike Ndubisi led Executive Committee of NNU.
He also appreciated the people of Ukwuani and Ndosimili for nominating them to serve as BOT members with a firm promise to contribute meaningfully to the development of our richly endowed region.
My team and I recognize in no small measures the good things that have been done by the present NNU Executive Committee, among which is the building of Ndokwa House.”
He stressed the fact that BOT is not an alternative NNU Executive, adding that their business is purely advisory even as they are expected to perform oversight functions when necessary.
“We shall in other words play the vital role of elders statemen and we promise to do so in the best of our abilities.”
