The Delta State Police Command has arrested 81 suspects and recovered large quantities of suspected illicit drugs during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts across the Asaba metropolis.
This was contained in a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on 25th of July, 2026, in Asaba.
Edafe said, “The raid, conducted on Thursday, July 24, formed part of the command’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety through proactive, intelligence-driven policing.”
Edafe said the operatives acted on credible intelligence to raid identified criminal flashpoints, leading to the arrest of 81 suspects, comprising 50 males and 31 females.
He said the suspects were arrested for offences including the sale and possession of suspected illicit drugs and the alleged establishment of an illegal checkpoint at the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge.
The police spokesperson disclosed that exhibits recovered during the operation included large quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
He added that the enforcement exercise also led to the impoundment of five vehicles for various violations, including operating an unauthorised taxi park at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road and allegedly facilitating the sale and distribution of suspected illicit drugs in the area.
According to the statement, the suspects and the recovered exhibits remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.
The police commissioner warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law, reiterating that the command would continue to sustain operations aimed at ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
