Nigeria and Libya’s second leg match in AFCON qualifier delisted by CAF after Super Eagles airport ordeal

Oct 15, 2024

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has delisted the Group D second-leg fixture of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Libya.

The match was earlier scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 15, in Libya after the first leg took place in Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday.

The Super Eagles beat the Mediterranean Knights 1 – 0.

However, the return leg couldn’t take place after the Super Eagles players and officials were stranded for 14 hours after they arrived in Libya. Following the airport ordeal, the Super Eagles boycotted the match and returned home instead.

The continental football body said it had launched an investigation into the incident.
