…Calls for Reconstruction of Some Streets in Asaba

Delta State Government has ordered the contractor who had supplied and installed refurbished transformers as against brand-new ones, in some localities in Ika North-East, Ika South and Aniocha South Local Government Areas of the state, should replace them with new transformers immediate effect
Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring/Audit, Engr. Dr. Goodnews Agbi, gave the order while inspecting the transformers and Power improvement in Ekuku Agbor and Environs for the purpose of rehabilitating and reinforcing electricity power supply in the area.
Agbi who was not pleased with what he met on ground, noted that “the transformers are being refurbished.
He said, “the contractor is not here, but the client ministry is here, we have asked them to replace all the transformers, incidentally, certain percentage has been paid which we are not happy about. According to them, there is light here, but it has not been distributed to the community. So they need to do that quickly by bringing the new transformers.”
He added that, “For one whole year since this contract was awarded, the community has not had light whereas government’s intention is to give light to the community. Government has provided the fund and the community cannot get light. This is not good at all. The Governor is trying to make everyone happy and get the dividends of democracy and those of us who are rendering services to the end users must also play our parts.”
When asked how long it will take to replace the transformers and restore light to the communities, the ministry’s engineer, Sam Ojawuna, said “From the discussions I had with the contractor, he said within the next 4 weeks everything will be certain. The transformers should be here.”
Other areas inspected were, the renovation of Primary Healthcare Center, Boji-Boji Owa main building, construction of perimeter block wall fence with gate house and landscaping of the premises, where the SpAd said “we will invite the client’s ministry and the contractor to the office to explain why the job is not completed, to know if they have been fully paid or if there is a problem because both contractor and clients are not here. We can see that it’s a very poor job. The finishing and the landscaping are poor. And this is supposed to be a Primary Healthcare Center. He will come back to complete this job, but let’s get the status report of the ministry.”
For the Construction of Odilison E.C Junior Crescent, Ngozi Odiaka avenue and Odilison close Asaba in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Agbi expressed his disappointment noting that “You don’t lay asphalt on ordinary soil without stone base. This road cannot stand the taste of time.
So, we need you to scarify these asphalt laid. We’ll come back and check before you lay your asphalt again. If you look at the quality of work, of course they did it in a hurry. This is not good and this is the state’s capital territory. You do a job and in less than 6 months the job will fail.”
