Line tripping caused grid collapse – TCN

Nov 6, 2024

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has cited “a series of lines and generators tripping” as the cause of the latest grid collapse, which led to a nationwide power outage around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

In a statement, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, explained that the partial grid disturbance began around 1:52 p.m., affecting power generation plants across the country. However, data from the National Control Centre (NCC) indicated that certain areas of the grid remained unaffected by the outage.

“TCN engineers are already working to quickly restore bulk power supply to the states affected by the partial disturbance,” Mbah stated. “Presently, bulk power supply has been restored to Abuja at 2:49 p.m., and we are gradually restoring to other parts of the country.”

Mbah also offered an apology for the disruption, adding, “We sincerely apologize for every inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers.”
