In an unprecedented move yesterday, the Executive Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government, Hon (Barr) C.S Possible Ajede presented Cheques worth several millions of naira to 100 beneficiaries of the Ukwuani Local Government 2023 Scholarship Awards in line with his administration’s Education goal.
In his address at the cheques presentation ceremony, the Council Boss stated that the occasion marks a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to education development in the LGA which according to him, is a key pillar of the #StepUpUkwuaniAgenda.
Barr Ajede in his speech also expressed his fulfilment and excitement in being able to consciously make significant investment in the future of Ukwuani youth, while stating that, “Education has always been a cornerstone of progress and empowerment to any people; when I was preparing to come to the Council – investing in Education was paramount to me amongst other goals.”
Speaking further, he emphasized the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering youth. He stated that, “It is the duty of any responsible government to contribute to the education of its citizens…I believe that it is through education that we can break the cycle of poverty, empower our youth, and build a brighter future for Ukwuani,” he said.
Continuing, the Ukwuani 001 established that the Ukwuani Local Government 2023 Scholarship Awards was beyond the fulfilment of the Education Development goals of his administration’s but a testament to his commitment to invest in the future of young university students of Ukwuani origin.
The Savvy Lawyer further disclosed that each of the 100 beneficiaries will receive a scholarship award of N100,000. Additionally, he noted that the Oweka Sophie Nwamaka, Enemuwe Valerie Chioma and Igwede Chidinma the top three students from the Aptitude test earlier organized will receive prizes of N200,000, N150,000, and N130,000 respectively for their outstanding academic achievements.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, Ajede tasked them on the need for continuous hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in their academic pursuit. “These scholarships will help to alleviate the financial burden of educational expenses for these students, allowing them to focus more on their studies,” he added.
The Council Boss explained that with this recognition and award of the Scholarship comes great responsibility. He therefore urged them to take their studies seriously, while stating that, “Your success will not only justify the labour of your parents and the support of the council but also inspire future generations to strive for excellence.”
Meanwhile , Barr Ajede has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the educational development of Ukwuani children even as he gave the assurance that his administration will continue to explore avenues for scholarships, grants, and other forms of support to give hope and an enviable future to young Ukwuani people and the larger society. “We understand that education is not limited to just the primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions but extends to vocational training/acquisition of skills as well,” he stated.
Highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries by the Executive Chairman, Hon C.S Possible Ajede Esq and other dignitaries present; and commendations and encouragement from Ukwuani people to the Council Chairman for being a shining light and a pacesetter in local government administration in the LGA.
