The Delta State Government has expressed its readiness to take a decisive position on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) involving Sterling Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), Agge Delta, and Agge Bayelsa.
Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Peter Uviejitobor, disclosed this on Thursday during a strategic meeting held at the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba.
He lamented SEEPCO’s persistent failure to honour previous invitations extended by the Ministry, stating that the company also failed to attend the latest meeting which it had initially proposed.
“In spite of the fact that this meeting was at the request of SEEPCO to address lingering issues regarding the MOU, the company has again failed to show up,” the Commissioner said. “This level of disregard is unacceptable, and as a government, we cannot continue to wait. The State will proceed with the meeting and take its position based on the resolutions reached today.”
He noted that the purpose of the meeting was to chart a way forward concerning unresolved matters tied to the tripartite agreement between SEEPCO, Agge Delta, and Agge Bayelsa, which has implications for the host communities and stakeholders.
The meeting had in attendance representatives from key security agencies including the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services (DSS), who were on hand to observe the proceedings and provide strategic insight where necessary.
The Commissioner reiterated the Delta State Government’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in all dealings involving oil-producing communities and energy companies operating within the state.
Further resolutions from the meeting are expected to be communicated in due course.
