Tasks Community Newspaper Publishers on Development Journalism
The Executive Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government, Hon (Barr) C.S Possible Ajede has expressed his commitment to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to Ukwuani people till his last day in office.
The multi awards winning Council Boss made this statement while playing host to the Delta State Chapter of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers in his office on Wednesday.
While addressing the pressmen, Barr Ajede stated that his drive and major aim of joining politics was to give back to his people what they truly deserve – the best and to redefine the narratives that campaign promises can be fulfilled.
He noted that what his team has accomplished in the LGA is born out of the desire to serve his people without holding back nothing from them because he understands that the Ukwuani people deserves the best in administration and development.
Speaking further, the performing Council Chairman enumerated some of his administration’s unmatched achievements to include the construction of mini Ultra Modern Market at Obi-Obeti, construction of Amai Ultra Modern Market, Reconstruction/Renovation of two 5 and 6 classroom blocks at Ethiope Primary School in Umutu, construction of 5 mini bridges at Ezhionum farm road, construction of Ultra Modern Legislative Arm Office Complex in the Council, Digitalization of the Council Secretariat, Construction of Ultra Modern Abattoir and Meat Market in Obiaruku, the construction of State-of-the-art Okpala-uku Palace in Obiaruku and many other modern facilities.
Other achievements of the council boss includes the purchase of 5KVA Transformer for some streets in Obiaruku, refurbishing of other transformers, light up Ukwuani Project Phase One, Empowerment programme, Scholarship of 100k each to 100 Ukwuani students in tertiary institutions, ante- natal empowerment to support pregnant women, farmers empowerment programme, Ukwuani Peace Cup 2022, Peace and Security initiatives, Environmental Sanitation, Education Development strides as well as other aspects of the #StepUpUkwuaniAgenda.
He also disclosed that the Second Phase of his administration’s empowerment programme shall be the mother of empowerments done in recent years; he also revealed to the newsmen that Ukwuani 1st Unity Sports Festival will kick off this October and according to him, the festival promises to be a fun and talents would be discovered and groomed to shine at the world stage.
Meanwhile, the savvy lawyer has underscored the importance of the roles of Community Newspapers in the development of the grassroot in Nigeria even as he tasked the publishers on the need for intensive development journalism.
He lauded the community newspapers publishers’ forum for their continued contribution in helping to reshape the society and the grassroot through their reporting.
Earlier in his presentation, the Publisher of Ndokwa Vanguard, Mr Ekele Alaska who spoke on behalf of the chairman of the group, Mr Jude Obiemenyego applauded the Barr Ajede for his administration’s multifacet developmental milestones in Ukwuani Local Government adding that, his administrative exploits are not unnoticed in every LGA in Delta State and beyond.
He therefore encouraged him to continue to keep the flag flying even as he informed the chairman of his nomination for a Merit Award of Excellence for his exceptional leadership and achievements in office.
