A shocking incident has been reported in Odisha, India where an elderly man exhumed his late sister’s remains and took them to a bank to prove she was dead.
The man, identified as Jitu Munda, had reportedly been trying to withdraw about Rs 20,000 from his sister’s account at a local bank after she passed away in January. However, bank officials insisted on proper documentation before processing the request.
Frustrated after multiple failed attempts, he dug up his sister’s grave and brought her skeleton to the bank as proof of her death, leaving staff and customers in shock.
According to reports, the situation was worsened by his lack of formal education, as he struggled to understand the required process for accessing funds from a deceased person’s account.
Police later intervened, describing the incident as a communication gap between the man and the bank officials. Authorities confirmed that steps would be taken to help him access the funds through proper procedures.
The remains were eventually returned and reburied under police supervision.
