The Delta State Government has dismissed allegations by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of an assassination plot, describing the claim as false and part of an attempt to discredit Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the administration would not be drawn into campaign of calumny, but would instead focus on its record and the fulfilment of promises made to Deltans under the MORE Agenda.
Aniagwu stated this at a press conference in Asaba, where he accused the opposition of resorting to spurious allegations because it lacked substantive issues with which to challenge the governor’s performance.
He said Oborevwori remained focused on delivering good governance and improving the welfare of residents rather than engaging political opponents in mudslinging.
The Commissioner urged the public not to be misled by Omo-Agege’s allegation of an assassination plot, insisting that the claim was false.
Aniagwu expressed confidence that Deltans would assess the governor based on his performance as the 2027 election approaches.
According to him, developments recorded across the state in the last three years would strengthen Oborevwori’s bid for a second term in office.
He also noted that Omo-Agege and Oborevwori would not be direct contestants in the same election, explaining that while Oborevwori would be seeking re-election as governor, Omo-Agege was pursuing a senatorial seat.
“In the first place, Oborevwori is not contesting for a Senate position; he is contesting re-election as the Governor of Delta State. Therefore, they are not on the same ballot. Omo-Agege is not a competitor with Oborevwori in this election,” Aniagwu said.
The Commissioner further accused Omo-Agege of contributing to divisions within the All Progressives Congress in the past, while claiming that Oborevwori had worked to reconcile political interests and reduce tensions in the state.
He maintained that the administration would continue to concentrate on governance and development rather than respond to what it considers politically motivated allegations.
