In a glorious testament to the power of selfless service and impactful leadership, history was made on May 2, 2026, as Delta State University, Abraka, conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (D.B.A., Honoris Causa) on His Royal Majesty, Enyi Friday O. Abaja, the Ukwata 1 of Umukwata Kingdom. The award, presented at the university’s 18th convocation ceremony held at the Convocation Arena, was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanity, community development, leadership, and philanthropy.
The event was a dignified assembly of distinguished traditional rulers, academics, captains of industry, and well-wishers from across Nigeria, all gathered to witness the celebration of a rare breed of royalty who has turned the template of traditional leadership into a vehicle for mass transformation.
His Royal Majesty, described by many as one of the finest Ukwuani men of his generation, has become synonymous with generosity. What truly distinguishes him from other wealthy sons of Ukwuani land is not the size of his business conglomerate, but his large-hearted, almost reckless, giving. He has used his personal wealth not only to bring development but to literally recreate the Umukwata Kingdom and place it firmly on the global map.
From social investments that have breathed life into critical community infrastructure to job creation spanning the village and his business empire, Enyi Friday O. Abaja has set a new standard for what it means to be a traditional ruler in the 21st century. “Ukwuani people have produced great men before now, but we have yet to see a man who has so deliberately and successfully used his wealth to transform his community,”
In a heartfelt congratulatory message, Ambassador Chuks Ododo praised the monarch for the well-deserved honour, describing it as a public endorsement of his unwavering commitment to community building, wealth creation, and service to humanity.
“His Royal Majesty has written his name in gold. This honorary degree is not just a certificate; it is a mirror reflecting a life of impact,” Ambassador Ododo said. He appealed to the monarch to continue his good works and extend his hand of fellowship to other communities in Ndokwa land.
However, Ambassador Ododo did not stop at congratulations. He used the moment as a clarion call to other wealthy sons and daughters of Ndokwa extraction. “I appeal to the well-to-do among us to emulate what His Royal Majesty is doing in Umukwata Kingdom. Let each person contribute their quarter towards uplifting their own community and the less privileged among us,” he urged.
He Emphasised the need for a paradigm shift from mere remittances to strategic social impact investment, Ambassador Ododo noted that such gestures remain one of the critical engines of growth and development outside government presence.
“We cannot continue to wait for the government to do everything. Development happens when private wealth meets public need. I urge Ndokwa elites to pay more attention to social impact investment, it is the only sustainable pathway to the future we all desire,” he added.
Long live His Royal Majesty, Enyi Friday O. Abaja!
Long live the Umukwata Kingdom!
Long live Delta State University, Abraka!
