The Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU) Electoral Committee has announced plans to conduct Bye-Election to fill vacant positions in the union’s National Executive Council.
In a statement made available to journalists, the committee disclosed that it has been duly constituted and inaugurated in line with the provisions of the NNU constitution to oversee a credible electoral process.
The committee, led by Chairperson Dr. Ruth Epochi-Olise, with Deacon Benson Olokume as Secretary and Mr. Chukwudi Azaka as member, confirmed that the bye-election process will commence on May 6, 2026, and end on June 20, 2026.
“The election will fill the following offices:
National Assistant Publicity Secretary, National Provost.”
According to the guidelines, aspirants must be Ndokwa indigenes residing in Delta State or any part of Nigeria, with the capacity to respond to official engagements when required.
Candidates are also expected to possess a minimum of a first degree or its equivalent with those currently holding political appointments not eligible to contest.
Additionally, aspirants must have a verifiable residence within Ndokwa land and will only be considered for screening upon submission of completed nomination forms within the stipulated period.
“Each candidate is required to present a letter of attestation from their Clan Head or King, confirming their origin and moral standing, while delegate nominations must reflect gender sensitivity.”
The statement said the sale and submission of nomination forms will run from May 15 to June 10, 2026 while forms will be obtainable through members of the Electoral Committee at the designated centres, and the NNU headquarters in Kwale.
“Both positions attract a nomination fee of ₦100,000 each and will be filled in line with the union’s zoning arrangement. The position of National Assistant Publicity Secretary is reserved for candidates from Ndokwa East or Ukwuani, following the emergence of the current Public Relations Officer from Ndokwa West while the position of National Provost, however, is open to all LGAs.
“Screening of candidates is scheduled for June 19, 2026, at a venue to be communicated to aspirants.”
According to the statement, the electoral college will comprise members of the Ndokwa General Assembly, including past and present leaders, committee officials, and representatives of various groups, with emphasis on gender-inclusive participation.
“Winners will be determined by a simple majority of valid votes cast. In the event of a tie, the Chairman of the Electoral College will exercise a casting vote.
“Successful candidates will serve for the remainder of the current administration’s tenure, with no provision for tenure extension beyond the existing term.”
