The Delta State Government has been urged to come to the rescue of Ike-Onicha, Onicha-Ukwuani, Amorji and Ogbagu-Ogume communities in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State over the invasion of their farmlands and destruction of crops by herdsmen.
A retired Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Civil Service, Ogbuiji Augustine Ekabanichionye Chukwuma, made the appeal in Ike-Onicha, Onicha-Ukwuani while addressing newsmen.
Chukwuma, who is the Onochueze of Ike-Onicha , Onicha-Ukwuani commended Delta S State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Area , Chief (Dr.) Obi Nzete for their roles in ensuring that the cattle rearers initially left their various communities.
Chukwuma stated that Ike-Onicha and all Onicha-Ukwuani communities forbid the eating of cow hence they do not want cattles in their communities .
Recalling that the herdsmen and their cattle had left their communities three weeks ago, Chukwuma stated that they were surprised to notice that the herders had returned and occupied their farmlands with their cows since August 5.
He noted that their communities are peace-loving people who do not want to take laws into their hands, stressing that residents have been denied access to their farms.
Chukwuma said that cattle are presently ravaging crops at the boundary between Ike-Onicha and Ogbagu-Ogume communities, emphasizing that their communities were still in need of government intervention so that the herdsmen with their cattles could vacate their communities.
