The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects in separate operations involving alleged armed robbery, attempted murder and stealing, recovering three locally made firearms and eight live cartridges.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a press release issued in Asaba on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
According to the statement, operatives of the Orerokpe Division, acting on intelligence received from the Civilian Anti-Cult Group in Osubi, arrested two suspected armed robbers, Musa Haruna, 22, and Mubarack Abdulahi, 20, on October 11.
The suspects were intercepted in a tricycle with registration number BDG 429 QN along Osubi Road. A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled shotgun, seven live cartridges and a jackknife.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly members of a criminal syndicate involved in robbing and abducting passengers and forcing them to transfer money from their bank accounts. Efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspected members of the syndicate.
In a separate incident, operatives of the Agbor Division arrested a 25-year-old man, Paul Francis, over an alleged attempted armed robbery at Alifekede Village on October 12.
The suspect allegedly attempted to rob a woman and stabbed her on the forehead, inflicting serious injuries. A locally made cut-to-size gun and a kitchen knife were recovered from him.
The victim was taken to a medical facility and was responding to treatment, while the suspect remained in police custody as investigations continued.
Also, operatives of the Otu-Jeremi Division arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged theft of a point-of-sale (POS) machine, an Infinix mobile phone and ₦2 million from a female victim’s residence at Okwagbe Waterside Community.
The police said the case was reported on October 10, while the arrest of the first suspect, Bruno Jonathan, was made on October 12 following intelligence-led operations.
A search of his residence led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge. Further investigations led to the arrest of two other suspects, Merit Solomon and Edna Iboyi, in connection with the alleged theft.
The three suspects remained in police custody as investigations continued to determine their respective levels of involvement.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for their prompt response and collaboration with community security stakeholders.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, recovering illegally possessed firearms and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
