There is commendation for the management of Asaba Specialist Hospital following its recent rollout of a free MRI scan programme for residents of Delta State.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Peace Ighosewe and her team, has thrown a lifeline to many Deltans who could not afford the cost of MRI scans in private facilities.
A Consultant Neurologist at the hospital, Dr. Yusuf Yakub, who handled several of the reports, described the programme as life-saving.
According to him, the free scans have helped in early detection of critical cases for prompt treatment.
“The free MRI scan has taken a huge burden off families. We have been able to detect critical cases early and refer them for proper treatment. Asaba Specialist Hospital used the second-best Radiologist in the country to run the scans, so the quality of imaging and interpretation has been top-notch,” Dr. Yakub said.
Speaking earlier with journalists, Dr. Ighosewe disclosed that extra hands were engaged to support the Radiology and Records units to ensure speedy service delivery.
“That decision made the process more professional and ensured that results were released fast. Patients no longer wait for weeks. It is seamless, even now that the window for the free scan is closed,” the CMD stated.
She noted that beneficiaries and their relatives have continued to hail the programme, describing it as “a relief and a blessing” amid rising cost of healthcare.
Dr. Ighosewe said the initiative is in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and reflects her commitment to making healthcare accessible to the people.
The CMD also assured that the hospital will partner with the media to give wider publicity to its programmes so as to reach more Deltans in need.
“We will work with the media to ensure that information about our services gets to every nook and cranny of Delta State, she added.
