The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has called on police officers to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
Erale gave the charge during his familiarisation tour of the state, which included a courtesy visit to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix A. Mujakperuo (Rtd.), and an inspection visit to the Sapele Area Command.
At the palace of the traditional ruler, the commissioner sought the monarch’s counsel and support in addressing security challenges, particularly cultism and drug abuse.
He also reiterated his directive that cases of sexual offences must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, warning against informal settlements of such matters.
The police commissioner assured the monarch of adequate security during the ember months and forthcoming elections, stressing the command’s commitment to political neutrality and zero tolerance for electoral malpractice.
Responding, the Orodje of Okpe described his people as peace-loving and expressed delight over Erale’s posting to Delta State.
The monarch pledged his support for the police and promised to encourage other traditional rulers to collaborate with security agencies in tackling crime across the state.
At the Sapele Area Command, Erale urged officers and men to embrace intelligence-led policing, maintain discipline and respect the fundamental human rights of citizens.
He also called on community stakeholders to strengthen their partnership with the police through timely intelligence sharing and active participation in crime prevention.
The commissioner stressed that effective security could only be achieved through collective responsibility and sustained cooperation between the police and members of the public.
The familiarisation tour is part of efforts by the police commissioner to engage traditional institutions, officers and community stakeholders towards improving security across Delta State.
