Delta State Government has said the 2026 Fiscal year budget will focus more on Agriculture to boast food security, social welfare, education, and energy across the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen disclosed this during an interview at the inter-ministry budget defense at the state secretariat in Asaba, Delta state capital.
Speaking during the opening session, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Hon. Sonny Ekedayen, said the exercise is a key stage in the state’s annual budgeting process, aimed at ensuring that proposed expenditures align with the development priorities and the MORE Agenda of the administration.
Mr. Ekedayen noted that the inter-ministry defense gives room for ministries, MDAs to justify how they would utilize the proposed budget of their ministries.
He explained that the inter-ministeries budget defense is one of the activities that precede the budget preparation, stressing that it allows ministries to carry out their activities, and they are expected to explain how these resources will be used.
Honourable Sonny maintained that the budget committee reviews each ministry’s proposed projects to ensure they align with the state’s development vision.
According to him, “We must be sure that the activities the ministries planned align with the objectives of the government under the MORE Agenda”.
While highlighting that the 2026 budget will gear more towards Agriculture, Education, social welfare, infrastructural development, support programmes for vulnerable, and electricity and energy development.
