The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben, over allegations linking him to the assault of a senior government protocol official.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, is intended to allow security agencies to conduct an independent and unbiased investigation into the allegations.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the government said the allegations stem from an alleged assault involving the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as “Temple,” at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
The state government said the decision to suspend the commissioner was taken to ensure that the investigation proceeds without interference and in accordance with due process.
According to the statement, the Delta State Government remains committed to maintaining public safety, law and order, as well as protecting the sanctity of human life.
It stressed that these principles would be upheld in all circumstances, including where allegations involve government officials or state institutions.
The government said the suspension would remain in force indefinitely pending the conclusion of investigations by the relevant security agencies.
The commissioner’s suspension is therefore without prejudice to the outcome of the investigation or any subsequent legal process that may arise from the allegations.
