The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, has embarked on a familiarisation tour of the Ughelli Area Command as part of efforts to strengthen security operations, deepen community policing and enhance collaboration with traditional institutions and other stakeholders.
During the visit, the police commissioner paid a courtesy call on the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, at his palace. Traditional rulers from neighbouring communities in Delta State were also present.
At the palace, CP Erale paid homage to the monarch and solicited his prayers, wise counsel and continued support in the fight against crime and criminality.
The commissioner expressed concern over the prevalence of cultism, drug abuse and sexual offences in the area, emphasising that effective policing depends largely on credible and timely information from members of the public.
Responding, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom welcomed the police commissioner and pledged the continued cooperation of the traditional institution with the Police in maintaining peace and security. He particularly assured the Command of support during the ember months and the forthcoming electioneering period.
At a separate stakeholders’ meeting, CP Erale stressed that security is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of community leaders, residents and other relevant stakeholders.
He urged members of the public to provide the Police with credible intelligence that could assist in preventing crime, identifying criminal elements and maintaining law and order.
The commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s determination to combat criminal activities across the state, while strengthening police-community relations through sustained engagement and collaboration.
Addressing officers and men of the Ughelli Area Command, CP Erale charged them to remain vigilant, intensify intelligence-led policing and demonstrate professionalism, discipline and dedication in carrying out their responsibilities.
He specifically warned against extortion, unlawful arrests and all forms of human rights violations, declaring that the Command would not tolerate any act of misconduct by its personnel.
The familiarisation tour underscores the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to strengthening operational efficiency, building public confidence and fostering stronger partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders and residents in the collective pursuit of a safer Delta State.
