Delta villagers excited over siting of federal poly in community

As the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State finalises arrangements to formally take off for academic activities in September 2023, the people of the community are already in celebration.

Some members of the Orogun community have said that the siting of the tertiary institution in their locality has transformed the sleepy agrarian community, turning it into a tourist attraction of sorts.

The village head, Chief Benjamin U. F. Ojiri, the Omamede of Orogun Kingdom and Okarorho of Orhomuru community, showered encomiums on the government and the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for facilitating the Federal Polytechnic to Orogun Kingdom.

“We are very grateful to our son, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate because due to his ingenuity, he is able to lobby and get this Federal Polytechnic to our environment,” the village head told journalists who were on a working visit to the tertiary institution.

“The community as a whole and the Orogun kingdom are all very grateful to him because this school has brought development to our area.

With the school being here, soon we expect banks and other government institutions to establish their offices in the community.

“No doubt, the people of Orogun will forever be grateful to the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate for turning a hitherto obscure village into a megacity with the siting of the Federal Polytechnic to the community and the state.”

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the 8th Senate, had in 2017 moved a motion for the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun. His efforts culminated in the bill’s passage and eventual assent by the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, in February, year, as conveyed in a letter dated February 23, 2021, to the then Deputy President of the Senate referenced DHE/POLY/39/C.1/I/84 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny S. T. Echono, on behalf of the then Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu.

Barely six months down the line, the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun has now become a reality, with the necessary infrastructural facilities springing up on over 100 acres of land acquired as the permanent site, located in the hearts of Orogun kingdom.
