The Delta State Police Command has recovered a Beretta pistol and a locally fabricated single-barrel gun in separate intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of two suspects in Delta State.
This was containin in a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer,SP Bright Edafe in Asaba.
The statement said the operations were carried out by operatives of the Ozoro and Agbor Divisions as part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and crime across the state.
The statement added that operatives of the Ozoro Division, while on routine township patrol along Alaka Road in Ozoro on July 25, intercepted a 25-year-old suspect, Yakubu Musa, who was carrying roofing sheets suspected to have been stolen.
Edafe said the suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the items in his possession during interrogation, prompting further investigation.
“A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of one cut-to-size single-barrel gun,” he said, adding that the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
In a separate operation on July 24, operatives of the Agbor Division acted on credible intelligence and intercepted a 40-year-old suspect, Sunday Anaboro, an indigene of Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area who resides in Agbor.
Police said a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol concealed inside a sack.
The suspect was arrested and is currently in custody. The command said he would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ridding the state of illegal firearms and other instruments of crime.
He also urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing credible and timely information to assist ongoing efforts to combat crime across Delta State.
