The Delta State Contributory Health Commission,(DSCHC) on Monday, flagged off distribution of health insurance cards to the indigents Enrollee Adoption Initiative Adoptees of Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation in Onicha Olona Community, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In his welcome address at the ceremony, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Olorogun Dr. Isaac O. Akpoveta expressed satisfaction at the turn-out, adding that Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation has set a remarkable and shining example for all to follow.
Dr. Akpoveta revealed that “the adoption and purchase of health insurance for 100 vulnerable individuals in the community in response to the clarion call of the DSCHC to all people of goodwill to key into the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative of the commission is not just an act of charity; it is a demonstration of profound empathy and a tangible commitment to the well-being of our people”.
Akpoveta explained further that “the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative, pioneered by the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, aims to ensure that every resident, regardless of their socio-economic status, has access to quality healthcare”.
He noted that ” It is heartening to see the spirit of solidarity and community support exemplified by this foundation, whose noble gesture will provide essential health coverage for those who need it most .
He continued “with just N7000 per person you can purchase the health insurance card for your neighbor to access quality health care throughout the year, and it is exactly what the Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation has just done, and the reason we are here today.
Dr. Isaac maintained that “Healthcare should not be a luxury reserved for the privileged few; it is a fundamental human right that must be guaranteed to all”.
The DSCHC DG commended the foundation for stepping forward to adopt enrollees and purchase health insurance for the vulnerable members of the community, saying the foundation has demonstrated a profound understanding of collective action in creating positive change just as he urged stakeholders to key into the kind gesture demonstrated by the foundation.
Akpoveta, however, urges the community to be inspired by the selflessness and dedication of the foundation to take up the mantle of responsibility and join hands in supporting our fellow community members who are in need, whether through philanthropic initiatives, volunteering, or advocacy.
He commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who has continued to give strong political will and financial support to the commission to enable the commission to address healthcare disparities through this initiative, that aims to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage to indigent individuals, thereby improving their health outcomes and promoting social equity within our communities.
