As part of measures to tackle insecurity across Delta state and by extension in Nigeria, the Chairman of Oshimili South local government council, Chief (Hon) Obi Kelvin Ezenyili on Friday 13 of June 2025 unveiled 7745 as an emergency security sort code for any security threat within the local government area.
Unveiling the emergency security sort number at the local government council secretariat during a press briefing, the chairman, Chief (Hon) Obi Kelvin Ezenyili disclosed that the safety and wellbeing of Oshimili South is a fundamental responsibility, and it is paramount to his administration.
He said, ” The safety and wellbeing of the people is a fundamental responsibility of any government and this is paramount to this administration”
Worried at the increased in crime rate which according to him is undoubtedly connected with the state of the economy, influx of criminals from the neighboring states, he maintained that security challenges, and infrastructure have been major concerns of his administration right from the inception of his previous administration.
According to his statement; “recently we have all witnessed an increase in crime which is undoubtedly connected with the state of the economy, influx of criminals from the neighboring States and coupled with the challenges of our Security infrastructure which has been a major concern of this administration right from the inception of my previous administration”
“Despite these challenges, the Oshimili South Local Government Council through periodic Peace and Security meetings and in synergy with law enforcement agencies has taken bold steps to increase security measures in key areas to prevent potential threats and breaches”.
Honourable Obi Kelvin Ezenyili however, highlighted some measures that the council has put in place to ensure smooth operation and sustainability of security across the local government area.
These he said includes; the creation of a security trust fund; to ensure sustainable funding for security initiatives.
He explained that the security trust fund is specifically meant to support various security-related activities, including the procurement of equipment and provision of logistics in the cause of maintaining law and order
The Council Chairman also revealed that, they have established a security taskforce in March 2025, with a 12-member combined security taskforce comprising personnel’s from the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, and local vigilante groups. This taskforce was formed to tackle criminal activities and ensure a safe environment for residents.
Others, he said, includes: purchase of security vehicles and motorcycles, installation of CCTV cameras, raiding of drug Dealers Den

“This emergency security number (7745), which has the approval of the Peace and Security Committee and Local Government Exco will after much hurdles be finally unveiled for the general public to take cognizance of This number was acquired by the Local Government Council from The Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) and is to aid in the timely reporting of security threats and enable a quick response to security incidents
