The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has called for closer collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Erale made the call on Monday when he received the Commander, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Buhari, who led other senior military officers on a courtesy visit to the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba.
Buhari congratulated Erale on his assumption of duty as Commissioner of Police in the state and assured him of the 63 Brigade’s continued support and cooperation.
He said the Police and Army had worked together in addressing several security challenges in Delta State, stressing the need to sustain the existing relationship between the two agencies.
The Brigade Commander called for open communication, intelligence sharing and mutual support, particularly in situations requiring joint security operations.
Responding, Erale thanked Buhari and his delegation for the visit, describing inter-agency cooperation as essential to effective policing in Delta State.
The commissioner likened the Police and military to “a tree with different branches,” explaining that while both institutions have distinct responsibilities, they are united by the common goal of protecting lives and property and maintaining peace.
He urged the two agencies to remain coordinated and operate on the same page whenever security challenges required a joint response.
Erale particularly stressed the importance of stronger cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that the period would require effective coordination among security agencies to prevent crime and maintain public order.
He called for sustained communication, intelligence sharing and mutual support between the Police Command and the 63 Brigade.
The commissioner assured the Brigade Commander that the Delta State Police Command was fully prepared to work with the military and other security agencies to tackle crime and ensure that the state remained peaceful before, during and after the elections.
The meeting further highlighted the commitment of the Police and Nigerian Army to strengthening security cooperation and safeguarding peace and stability across Delta State.
