The Delta State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects and rescued two minors during an intelligence-led raid on suspected illicit drug dens in Ozoro and Abraka as part of its ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes across the state.
The operation, which took place on Monday, July 21, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives carried out coordinated raids on identified drug dens and criminal hideouts in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, as well as Ekrejeta and the NUT Area in Abraka.
According to the police, 22 suspects—comprising 19 men and three women—were arrested for alleged offences bordering on the sale, possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
During the operation, officers also rescued two minors who were found in a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father. The children have since been taken into protective custody and will be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care and safeguarding, while investigations continue.
Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi described the discovery of minors in an environment linked to illicit drug activities as disturbing, stressing that the command remains committed to dismantling drug networks and protecting vulnerable members of society.
He called on parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and continue providing the police with credible information to support efforts to combat drug trafficking and other forms of criminality across Delta State.
The police said investigations into the activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing.
